JUPdog’s Statement

Jul 31, 2026

At JUPdog, transparency and trust are non-negotiable. The recent concerns surrounding Farmina—including ingredient processing, formula changes and unclear communication—do not align with our belief that pet parents and independent retailers deserve complete, accurate and timely information about the foods they purchase.

Farmina will remain on our shelves while we await a formal statement from the company. If we do not receive one soon, Farmina will become a special-order dog food at JUPdog for customers who choose to continue feeding it.

As always, we will continue reviewing the facts and putting the well-being of our customers’ dogs first.

Farmina’s Non-Transparency

As of July 31, 2026, the recent concerns surrounding Farmina dog food fall into three main areas:

  1. Ingredient sourcing and processing transparency

Farmina told JUPdog directly that the fruits and vegetables in its formulas have always been sourced from Europe. However, since 2021, those ingredients were sent to China for processing. Farmina has now stated that the processing for its North American formulas is being moved to Europe.

The concern was mainly about transparency: saying ingredients were “sourced from Europe” did not make it clear that some were processed in China. This does not establish that the ingredients were unsafe or grown in China.

  1. Changes to North American formulas

After opening its North Carolina manufacturing facility, Farmina changed ingredients in several formulas. Depending on the recipe, changes reportedly included wheat, chicken, pork fat, dehydrated pork or rice. This matters particularly for dogs with food sensitivities whose owners relied on the previous ingredient lists.

Farmina states that its updated recipes continue to use ingredients from its European and New Zealand partners and maintain the same guaranteed analysis. Farmina’s North American manufacturing statement

  1. March 2026 labeling recall

Farmina voluntarily recalled more than 8,000 22-pound bags of N&D Tropical Selection Salmon, Spelt, Oats and Tropical Fruits because the front identified the food as salmon while the ingredient panel listed lamb. The FDA classified it as Class III, meaning serious health consequences were unlikely. The available report did not establish whether the problem was only the printed label or whether the food inside was the wrong formula. Recall summary

Bottom line

The confirmed concerns involve:

  • Incomplete communication about processing in China
  • Formula changes that may affect sensitive dogs
  • A low-risk labeling recall involving one product

An Important Farmina Update

Farmina Ingredient-Sourcing Update

JUPdog has now received clarification directly from Farmina regarding the concerns we shared.

According to Farmina, the fruits and vegetables used in its dog food formulas have always been sourced from Europe—not China. However, since 2021, those European-sourced ingredients have been sent to China for processing before being used in Farmina’s North American formulas.

Farmina has informed us that, effective today, the fruits and vegetables used in all North American formulas will also be processed in Europe.

We appreciate Farmina providing this clarification. At JUPdog, we will continue asking questions, gathering the facts and keeping our customers informed with verified information.
